Worship
Morning worship - 10.45 am. Every Sunday. The style varies from week to week, but tends to be informal even when within a traditional structure. Evening worship is at 6.00pm, fortnightly. At our communion services (monthly), we practice an open table ("All who love the Lord are welcome at his table" ) and use non-alcoholic wine. Family/all age worship replaces the usual morning worship approximately once a month.
Circuit Services take place about 4 times a year in conjunction with other churches in our circuit. Baptisms, weddings and funerals are arranged with the Circuit superintendent. Our chapel makes a lovely setting for such events.
The chapel is fully equipped with an induction loop, wheelchair access (from the car park) and disabled toilet.
Church activates.
There are a number of home groups meeting in the village on different days. Ours is fully ecumenical and Bible based, investigating either a topic or a Bible passage (Details are here). Though having a serious purpose, they are relaxing and fun – wherever you are on life’s journey! At Lenten time all groups in the village use the same material.
Our ladies fellowship has a monthly devotional meeting on Wednesday afternoon. Its members are in many ways the backbone of the church willingly giving their time for both fundraising and the myriad of jobs that always need doing in any church.
There is a programme of family activities for all ages. Full details can be found here.
A badminton club meets on Friday evenings and a a rambling club goes out monthly on Saturdays.
We hold an annual Flower festival each July in conjunction with Hayfield Well Dressings. We welcome both individuals and groups to come and view the chapel at its best and to sample our home made refreshments. Coach parties can also be catered for - but we can do this better if we know in advance of their coming. Contact us for further details at info@stjohnshayfield.org.uk.
The church has a Fair trade stall, stocked with Traidcraft goods open before and immediately after all our services.
Ecumenical activities
We have a local covenant with St Matthew's Anglican church and help arrange and participate fully in activities organised by Hayfield Christians together. Regular events include:
A stall and "event" at Hayfield Sheepdog Trials
An all day cafe on Hayfield Mayqueen day.
Lent groups and the placement of a cross on Lantern Pike each Palm Sunday for holy week.
Candlelit suppers with a shared table and invited speaker.
Carol singing for charity around the village.
Remember : to whatever you come and for whatever reason - you will always be welcome.
