Who's who

The problem with a Who's who is that it makes it look as if some people's contribution is valued more that of others. This is definitely NOT the case here. The following list is simply to let visitors see a few faces, and to perhaps recognise some of the people around them.

Circuit superintendent – the Rev. David Philo. David has overall charge of the High Peak circuit. David is supported by a circuit office, staffed by a Development officer and Admin assistant.

Senior steward - Sheila Booth. Sheila leads a team of six stewards, whose main responsibility is to ensure the smooth running of the Sunday services in conjunction with the preacher and  musicians of the day. Sheila is a recently retired schoolmistress, and also a Circuit steward. Sheila is also chair of Hayfield Civic Trust and serves a number of other local organisations - as well as being our tutor and caller for Country dancing.

Local preacher - Colin Smith. Although Methodist preachers serve a group of churches (the "circuit"), St. John's is Colin's home church. When not leading worship elsewhere Colin is to be found in our congregation. Colin is retired from being a lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University and is Irene's husband. He has published two books (details here).

Youth leader and Sunday School superintendent - Dr Claire Crook. Claire has gathered around her a small but enthusiastic team, who have a particular burden for our young people - but watch out she needs a lot of help and you may be approached! Claire is a GP in practice in Stockport.

Church Treasurer - Irene Grace Smith. (Pictured right) A good treasurer is vital for any church. Irene is a good steward of our funds authorised to use church money to enable its work  to develop. Irene is a retired WRVS meals-on-wheels organiser.

Musicians - Josie Lomas and Sylvia Crummett usually play our organ (or piano) on a rota basis. Our church music tends to be traditional hymns interspersed with modern worship songs. Don’t be too disappointed though, the singing is very much of the "joyful noise" style!
